Solution to Ubuntu 9.04 “Enter password for default keyring to unlock”

Took weeks to find a solution to this error.

After upgrading to Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty, upon startup I kept getting the following error:

Enter password for default keyring to unlock

The application ‘NetworkManager Applet’ (/usr/bin/nm-applet) wants access to the default keyring, but it is locked.

The solution

  1. Right-click on the wireless applet in the task bar
  2. Find your wireless connection, and hit Edit.
  3. Check the option “Available to all users”.

Thanks to tentwelveight for uncovering the answer.
