A book to start the work day

I’ve been trying out a new habit: starting the work day by reading a related book for 10 minutes. I recommend you give it a go!

My book of choice this week has been Mastering Modular Javascript by Nicolás Bevacqua, published by O’Reilly. It covers complexity in software design, and using modularity as an answer to that complexity. It gets me thinking on a useful level for software development, rather than getting stuck at the surface layer of fixing today’s problems.

Before work, I read Seth Godin’s recommended book The Art of Possibility by Ros and Ben Zander. It’s an inspiring principles-based book that, for me, helps direct my thinking to start the day.

It’s a refreshing change to diving straight into an inbox and catching up on chats first thing in the morning.
